Well heres a very small and easy tutorial in cinema 4d on making a character. This is just for people new to c4d to get the hang of a few basic points.
Well, Step 1: Open up Cinema 4d and create a sphere. Objects>Primitive>Sphere. <div class='bbimg'> </div>Select your sphere in the object manager (top right) and press C. Pressing C makes it editable. Step 2: Place your Sphere inside a hyper nurb. Objects>Nurbs>Hyper Nurb. In the object manager drag your sphere inside the hyper nurb. Step 3: Well now i think my character should have some eyes. So, click the polygon tool on the left menu and you should see your sphere change. it should look to be split up into blue squares. <div class='bbimg'> </div>(^^its not in a hyper nurb like i said simply becuase i forgot On the menu at the top you should see an arrow, its next to the undo and redo buttons. Click that. Next you need to select where you want your characters eyes to be. Now that you are using the selection tool (arrow) you can click where you want its eyes to be. You should see the squares you click turn red, this means that theyre selected. <div class='bbimg'> </div>(^^its not in a hyper nurb like i said simply becuase i forgot Step 4: Next, right click and a menu should appear. Go down the menu and select extrude. You should see that your cursor changes. Now click, hold and drag your mouse and you should see the selected polyogns move. Move your mouse in a way so that the selected polygons move outwards. This should create very basic eyes. (Itd look better to extrude inwards and make a space to then add individual spheres for the eyes but for this tutorial the current ones will do fine.) <div class='bbimg'> </div>Step 5: Now, repeat step 4 but use it to create a basic nose instead. <div class='bbimg'> </div>Step 6: Now its time to use some ceativity. So far in this tutorial iv showd you a very basic modelling tool. The extrude tool. Try and use this tool to add some more features to your character. heres what did: <div class='bbimg'> </div>Step 7: Now, lets add a material to our character. I would show you how to add different materials to different parts of the character but i dont want to make it confusing so ill save that for another tutorial. So instead lets make and apply one material. In the material editor go to File>New Material. <div class='bbimg'> </div>You should see a small sphere appear in the box under where ii says file, double click that. For this tutorial well only use 3 options inside the material. Colour and reflection and specular. Make sure that colour, specular and reflection are selected. Choose your colour by dragging the sliders. Tick specular if its not already and leave the settings defualt. Tick the reflection box and set the reflection up like below: <div class='bbimg'> </div>Next, drag the small blue sphere onto your sphere in the object manager. Step 8: Do 2 things. Objects>Scene> Floor After this press F3 on your keyboard and position the floor just under the character. Do this using the move tool which is to thr right of the arrow we talked about. Go bck to the original view by pressing F1 on your keyboard. Reapeat step 7 and make a material and add it to the floor. Objects>Scene> Light ^Posistion the light where you want it. When the lights selected you should see a menu in the bottom right. Under the general tab go down to shadows and change it from none to soft. Now go to render>render settings, Under the general tab change antialiasing to best. Change the resolution(size) under the output tab and then go to the save tab. Select JPG as the format. Now exit this box and do: Render>Render to Picture Viewer. Well i decided to light mine differently so dont expect the same results as mine. Yours should still look cool though. I lit it differently to show you soemthing that could be done. <div class='bbimg'> </div>Hope this tutorial helped you learn the basics of C4d. |
